Sverre Nypan Joins Lommel on Loan: Man City's Plan

Manchester City youngster Sverre Nypan has joined City Football Group affiliate Lommel on loan for the 2026-27 season, the club has confirmed. The 19-year-old Norwegian midfielder spent the first half of last season on loan at Middlesbrough in the Championship, but that move did not work out and he returned to City in January.

Why Lommel Was Chosen

City believe the switch to Lommel, which won promotion to the Belgian top-flight last season via the play-offs, will offer Nypan regular match minutes in a conducive environment. Under manager Lee Johnson, the Blues feel he can develop and thrive. There were other options available, but City are keen to see him play regular football, and the hope is that Belgium provides the best opportunity for game time.

Director of Football Hugo Viana was involved in the decision-making process, which is not always the case with loan exits, according to sources at the club.

Nypan's Background and City Investment

Nypan joined City for £12.5 million from Norwegian side Rosenborg, where he had broken through as a youngster. The Blues won a competitive race for his signature against a host of top European clubs. He has yet to make a senior appearance for City, but was involved in first-team training and travelled with the Blues for both domestic cup finals last season as a non-playing squad member.

City hope the loan will provide the teenager with the best opportunity to gain match minutes and continue his development within the City Football Group structure.
