Marcus Rashford has no intention of moving to Turkey this summer amid interest from Fenerbahce, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. The Manchester United forward, 28, spent last season on loan at Barcelona, where he impressed with 14 goals and 14 assists in 47 appearances across all competitions, helping Hansi Flick's side win a second consecutive La Liga title and the Spanish Super Cup.
Barcelona Opt Against Permanent Deal
Rashford thought he had done enough to secure a permanent move to Barcelona, but the Catalan club allowed their £26 million option to buy to expire on June 15. Since then, Barcelona have signed Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United in a £69 million deal and are close to signing Karim Adeyemi from Borussia Dortmund. Barca's decision has forced Rashford to re-evaluate his options, with Fenerbahce emerging as a potential destination.
Rashford Prefers to Stay in Europe
However, Romano reports that Rashford has no interest in moving to Turkey and would prefer to remain in European football. Instead, the England international is expected to return to Manchester United for pre-season training. Manager Michael Carrick is keen to reunite with him and give the former Aston Villa loanee a chance to regain his place at the club.
Exit Only for a Top Club
Rashford can still leave United, but only if a bid comes from a 'top club'. Tottenham, Arsenal, Napoli, and Chelsea are among the European clubs linked with the forward this summer. His future is anticipated to be resolved once he returns to pre-season after time off following England's World Cup exit. England were eliminated in the semi-finals, losing 2-1 to Argentina in Atlanta on Wednesday.
Rashford started two of England's seven matches at the World Cup and came on as a deep stoppage-time substitute against Argentina after Lautaro Martinez put the holders ahead in the 92nd minute. He scored once in the tournament, netting England's fourth goal in the group stage opener against Croatia.
Rashford Addresses Future Before World Cup
Before England's quarter-final against Norway, Rashford spoke to reporters about his future. He admitted he wanted a move sorted before the World Cup but accepted it would have to wait until after. "I was very clear with everyone involved before the World Cup, I wanted it done before. If it's not, I wanted it to wait until after. I want to be fully present in the moment," Rashford said.
Manchester United's non-World Cup players have already returned for pre-season training and are set to play their first friendly against Championship side Wrexham in Finland on Saturday.
