Storm Boelo: Police Issue Flood Warning, Cardiff Roads Close

Police issued an early morning warning on Sunday as Storm Boelo brought flooding to Wales, forcing the closure of two roads in Cardiff. The storm, the second to hit the region in two days, has caused widespread damage.

Flood Warnings and Road Closures

There are five flood warnings and 45 flood alerts in place across Wales on Sunday morning, according to officials. In Cardiff, police reported two flooding incidents along the River Ely.

At 4.57am, a statement confirmed that Ely Bridge on Cowbridge Road West is closed in both directions. Michaelston Road to Castle Hill Court is also closed in both directions.

A police spokesperson said: "Please avoid the area and use alternative routes where possible. Thank you for your patience."

Transport Disruption and Weather Forecast

A Met Office 12-hour weather warning was in effect across most of Wales on Sunday, with heavy rain and high winds affecting the region for a second day. Transport faced major disruption, including strong winds damaging overhead electrical wires on the railway line near Abercynon and a crash on the M4 near Bridgend causing delays. Lanes on the motorway near Swansea were also closed due to surface water.

The Met Office forecast for Wales on Sunday warns of "very strong winds, peaking in the morning but lasting throughout the day, which may be disruptive in the north."
