Aberdeen close in on Hicham Mahou for Kilmarnock clash

Aberdeen are closing in on a deal to sign French winger Hicham Mahou, with the club hoping he can feature in Saturday's Premier Sports Cup clash with Kilmarnock.

The 27-year-old is in Aberdeen to complete his move and is expected to pen an initial contract until the end of the season. Mahou has been a free agent since leaving Lugano in the summer.

Debut hopes for cup clash

The Dons are working to get the paperwork in place for Mahou in time for the weekend. Manager Stephen Robinson has been keen to add more attacking options and wanted another winger after Kenan Bilalovic moved to MSK Zilina.

Career background

Mahou spent four seasons at Lugano. He came through the ranks at Nice and had spells at Red Star and Swiss side Lausanne-Sport, who signed him permanently in 2021. He also played for the French under-16 side as a teenager.

The Swiss market is one Aberdeen have explored in recent seasons. Mitchy Ntelo arrived from Yverdon after impressing on loan at Botev Vratsa, and Kristers Tobers came in from Grasshoppers in 2025. The Latvian captain is just returning from long-term injury. Former striker Peter Ambrose has gone the other way, leaving Aberdeen for Neuchatel Xamax.
