A man has died following an incident on the M60 near the Trafford Centre. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed that a man in his 40s tragically died after the incident, which occurred this morning (September 9).
Motorway closed between junctions 10 and 11
All traffic was stopped on the clockwise carriageway between junctions 10 at Urmston and 11 at Eccles at around 7.30am. A large emergency services response was seen in attendance, including multiple ambulances.
The motorway remained closed for around an hour as police enquiries took place. A coronial investigation is now expected to take place.
Police response and statement
GMP says it was called out to concerns for a person's welfare at the scene. A National Highways spokesperson said at the time: "Just before 07:30 this morning, National Highways Traffic Officers were dispatched to assist Greater Manchester Police with a police-led incident on the M60. The M60 clockwise is currently closed between J10 and J11 while police investigations and vehicle recovery are carried out."
In an update issued this afternoon, GMP confirmed the man's death. The incident led to a significant disruption on the motorway, with emergency services working at the scene.
