New weather maps from forecaster WXCharts indicate that the UK will experience a dramatic temperature drop of up to 15C within 48 hours later this month, offering relief after a series of intense heatwaves. The UK has already endured three heatwaves this year, with May and June both breaking temperature records, particularly in southern England where many households lack air conditioning and have struggled with humid conditions.
Temperatures to Peak Before Sudden Plunge
According to WXCharts, temperatures are set to peak around July 25, with some areas of England reaching up to 35C. The hottest spots will be in the south and west, including London and the Home Counties. However, this heat will dissipate quickly. By Monday, July 27, temperatures will remain in the mid-20s in many parts of England, but within 48 hours, by Wednesday, July 29, they will drop by as much as 15C.
Below-Average Temperatures Expected by July 29
The WXCharts maps for July 29 show that the majority of the UK will experience temperatures lower than the average for that period, indicated by blue colours on the map. The rest of July is expected to remain rather hot, but the end of the month will bring a significant cooldown.
Met Office Outlook and Climate Context
The Met Office has noted that from the end of July into August, there is a possibility of "a somewhat more changeable period, with the potential for showers or thunderstorms or even some longer spells of rain at times, these most likely to the north." Mike Kendon, Met Office climate information scientist, warned that weather extremes are becoming the new norm for the UK. He stated: "2025 was the UK’s warmest year on record, the sixth time this record has been broken in the 21st Century so far. The last four years are all in the top five warmest years. With warming at around 0.25°C per decade since the 1980s, it seems likely this record will be broken again in a matter of years."
