Storm Boelo chaos as trees fall on roads and railways

Storm Boelo has caused significant disruption across Greater Manchester, with trees falling on roads, railways, and pavements. Police closed a lane on the A627(M) motorway after trees fell on the road this morning (October 25). Trains were also grounded between Manchester Piccadilly and Liverpool Lime Street due to a tree on the railway line, which has since been removed.

Widespread Disruption Across the Region

Roads across the region have been hit by fallen trees, while engineers are responding to several power cuts. In the worst affected areas of the North West, engineers are unable to carry out repairs as the wind remains strong.

The Met Office has a yellow weather warning for strong winds in force across Greater Manchester until 9pm tonight. The warning also covers the rest of northern England, Scotland, and much of North Wales. A more severe amber warning is in force further north, including parts of Lancashire.

Impact on Communities

Images from around Greater Manchester show the extent of the damage. A fallen tree landed on a car in Woodhey Road, Holcombe Brook. Workers were at the scene of a fallen tree outside a house on Barton Road, Stretford. A fallen tree was also reported on the line between Wigan and St Helens, and engineers removed a tree from the railway at Hadfield.

Other affected locations include Mauldeth Road, at the border of Burnage and Heaton Moor, Heaton Park, Lightbowne Road in Moston, Monton Green in Salford, and Gatley Road in Gatley. Storm damage was also reported at Buile Hill Park in Salford, and a garden fence was broken in Daubhill, Bolton.

The storm's impact has been felt across the North West, with fallen trees causing travel delays and power outages. Engineers are working to restore services where conditions allow.
