The Met Office has issued a fresh amber weather warning covering large parts of Scotland ahead of Storm Beolo, which is forecast to bring destructive winds this weekend. Gusts could reach 80mph in some areas, with forecasters warning of potential "injuries and danger to life" as conditions worsen.
Warning Timing and Coverage
The amber weather warning will be in place from 9pm tomorrow (October 24) to 9pm on Sunday evening (October 25). The warning covers much of the country, including Central, Tayside & Fife, Grampian, Highlands & Eilean Siar, Strathclyde and SW Scotland, and Lothian Borders.
Forecast Details
According to the Met Office: "Very strong westerly winds associated with Storm Boelo are expected with fairly widespread gusts of 60 to 70 mph and gusts to 80 mph in exposed coastal areas."
The statement continues: "The strongest winds will initially affect western Scotland and far north of Northern Ireland on Saturday evening and then spread eastwards overnight and through Sunday."
Heavy Rain and Disruption
Forecasters added: "High winds will be accompanied by periods of heavy rain and frequent showers. Whilst high winds are expected across a wider area with a yellow warning in force, there is a higher confidence in impacts and disruption taking place within this amber warning area."
The winds are expected to gradually ease from the west through Sunday.
