A woman who climbed Yr Wyddfa, the highest peak in Eryri National Park, was left stunned by the ferocious winds she encountered at the summit. Megan Jay documented her experience on TikTok, revealing that winds were gusting at 90mph when she reached the top.
The Shocking Summit Conditions
In a video shared on the platform, Megan Jay wrote: "Making it up Mount Snowdon, but the winds are 90mph." She added: "The Snowdon summit on a windy day is not for the weak. I thought I was going to blow straight off the top." The footage showed her gripping tightly as the wind battered her.
Megan's experience is not unique. The summit of Yr Wyddfa is known for extreme weather, with temperatures often much colder, wetter, and windier than at the base. According to official advice, "the weather can play a huge part in your experience of climbing up Yr Wyddfa. It is much colder, wetter and windier at the summit."

Viewers of Megan's video were quick to comment. One wrote: "At least you got a view this time." Another added: "OMG." Despite the challenging conditions, Megan appeared to take the experience in good humour, finding amusement in the comments.
Climbing Yr Wyddfa: What to Expect
Yr Wyddfa stands at over 3,000 feet and is the most popular summit in Eryri National Park. The mountain is known worldwide and is home to several Welsh mountain farms. However, climbing it requires a high level of fitness and preparation.
Advice on the park's website states: "Yr Wyddfa is a challenging mountain to climb. Venturing to the summit should not be taken lightly. Factors such as the seasons, your fitness level, your mountaineering skills, your preparations beforehand and the mountain's popularity can all affect your experience."
It adds: "Anyone venturing to the summit should be comfortable walking long distances and climbing on steep and rocky slopes. Preparing for these conditions is essential."
Megan's story serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of mountain weather and the importance of being properly equipped for all conditions.
