UK Set for 34°C Heatwave After More Rain

Britain could be hotter than parts of the Mediterranean within two weeks, as forecasters predict a blistering 34°C heat blast heading for the UK. Weather maps from WXCharts show temperatures expected to exceed 30°C across multiple counties on June 19, as another potential heatwave looms.

The south-east looks set to bear the brunt of the scorching conditions, with London and Surrey forecast to swelter at 34°C. Kent, Essex and Sussex are not far behind, with temperatures expected to climb to between 31°C and 33°C as the hot spell grips southern England, reaching 19 counties.

The heat is forecast to spread across East Anglia and parts of the Midlands, while Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Hampshire, and Cambridgeshire are all in line for 30°C highs. Rutland, Leicestershire, and parts of Lincolnshire are also forecast to reach 30°C.

Further south-west, Devon and Cornwall will escape the worst of the heat, although temperatures could still reach a balmy 28°C. Across Wales, highs are expected to sit around 26°C, dipping to about 25°C in central areas. A stark north-south split is forecast, with Scotland, Northern Ireland and much of Northern England set to miss out on the hottest temperatures, instead seeing highs ranging from the low teens to the mid-20s.

But before Brits start dusting off the sun loungers, the country must first brace for another washout. A huge rain system is forecast to sweep across large parts of the UK tomorrow, June 8, before the mercury begins its dramatic climb. The Met Office is warning of 'changeable conditions' with showers or longer spells of rain likely to continue. According to the forecaster, the start of next week is shaping up to be wet and windy, with rain expected to 'move southeastwards across the country through tonight, turning heavy in the north and west and accompanied by some rather gusty winds'. Scotland and Northern Ireland are also facing showers.
