Temperature Drop of Over 25C in Days
Weather forecasters warn that temperatures across the UK are set to plunge to a low of 5C this week, marking a stark contrast to the sweltering heatwave many have enjoyed. On Friday, the mercury hit 31.3C in Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire, and 30.8C in Usk, Monmouthshire, with sunny and dry conditions across the country. However, the pattern is changing rapidly.
Cold Snap from Sunday
From Sunday, Britons could experience a 5C chill due to a northern wind bringing colder air from the north, pushing the high pressure south into mainland Europe. The recent heatwave was caused by a 'Sahara plume' of warm air from Africa and Europe. New maps from WXCHARTS, using MetDesk data, show falling temperatures, with green hues indicating lower pressure. Scotland and northeast England will see the quickest change, according to meteorologists. The Met Office has also noted the shift.
Regional Weather Contrast
While parts of Spain and Italy may see temperatures up to 44C by Thursday, the UK's best sunshine and heat will be in the southwest, reaching only 16C—nearly half of Friday's peak. The Met Office warns of showers in the north, stating: 'Patchy rain possible in the north where cloud thickens.'
