Brits face a blistering 39C heatwave within days, as weather maps indicate at least 18 counties could see temperatures above 30C. New forecast charts suggest a plume of intense heat will surge across southern and eastern England on Sunday, June 28, with parts of the country potentially rivalling some of Europe's hottest holiday destinations.
Heatwave Forecast Details
The latest maps show a vast swathe of England turning deep red, with temperatures climbing into the low and mid-30s and some hotspots potentially reaching 39C. Large parts of central, southern and eastern England are forecast to top 30C, with the heat stretching from the South West to East Anglia.
This forecast follows an earlier hot spell predicted for June 19, when Netweather maps suggested highs of 34C. At that time, the UK Health Security Agency issued yellow heat-health alerts for parts of England, covering four regions between June 17 and June 22 as the Met Office predicted temperatures nearing 30C in the South East alongside warm and humid conditions. Forecasters also warned that the muggy weather could lead to uncomfortably warm nights for many people.
Timing and Intensity
The latest forecast charts for Sunday, June 28, show temperatures climbing steadily through the afternoon, with the most intense heat developing by around 3pm. The hottest conditions are then expected to continue into the early evening, with maps showing widespread high temperatures at 6pm. Much of southern and eastern England is forecast to remain exceptionally warm later in the day, offering little respite from the heat.
Cooler conditions are shown further north, with Scotland and Northern Ireland largely avoiding the most extreme temperatures. If the forecasts prove accurate, large parts of England could experience one of the hottest spells of the summer. However, temperatures and the exact extent of the hottest conditions may still shift as newer weather model runs become available.
