The UK is facing widespread flooding after heavy rain, with 25 flood warnings issued across the country, particularly in southern regions. The Environment Agency has urged the public to take four key safety steps to protect themselves and their property.
Residents in affected areas are advised to turn off gas, electricity, and water supplies if safe to do so, and to avoid touching electrical switches while standing in water. They should also move family members, vehicles, pets, and important items to higher ground or upstairs, use flood protection products such as barriers or air brick covers, and follow advice from local councils or emergency services, which may include evacuation.
Met Office forecaster Alex Burkill predicted a band of rain moving from northern England through Wales to the south-west, with further rain expected to spread across southern and eastern parts during the afternoon. Some hill snow was also reported but is clearing.
The Environment Agency continues to monitor the situation and advises the public to stay updated via official channels.
