UK Braces for 18C Bank Holiday Sunshine in Seven Counties

Britain is set to bask in glorious sunshine for the Early May Bank Holiday, with thousands expected to flock to beaches as temperatures reach 18C in parts of the country. According to the latest weather maps, the UK will enjoy a mostly dry and sunny Monday, despite earlier concerns of a washout.

Warmest Temperatures in the South East

The highest temperatures are forecast for counties surrounding London, including Kent, Surrey, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Essex, and Greater London itself, where the mercury could hit 18C. The south coast is expected to see highs of 16C, while northern areas may reach up to 15C.

Forecast Details

British Weather Services senior meteorologist Jim Dale said: "It'll be mostly dry with light showers for far southern counties of both England and Wales (south of the M4 corridor), as well as the far north of Scotland. Distinctly cool in the far north, with average seasonal temperatures elsewhere, peaking at about 18C in the London area."

The Met Office deputy chief forecaster Mark Sidaway added: "Bank holiday Monday will remain changeable, with lingering cloud and scattered showers across southern and central areas. But these should be lighter and fewer than over the weekend."

Morning fog is expected across much of southern England before light drizzle sets in along the south coast for most of the day. As evening approaches, some thunderstorms may develop between Exeter and Brighton, according to weather maps. However, any showers should be very light, despite their widespread nature in the south.

Cooler Conditions in the North

Northern and north-eastern areas will feel fresher and cooler, with scattered showers, some possibly wintry over higher ground in the far north east. Winds will be mostly light to moderate, though stronger at times in the far northeast. While temperatures will be close to average for many, it will feel noticeably chillier in northern and north-eastern areas.
