Come rain or shine, The Hoppings can expect a warm welcome when it opens to visitors this Friday. Whether the sun will join the festivities remains uncertain.
Memories of Soggy Days
Many recall a soggy Hoppings over the years, with ride operators and stall holders putting on brave faces as families squelched through mud on the Town Moor. Yet, even a deluge fails to deter the annual pilgrimage to this beloved fair.
In recent years, the Newcastle run has coincided with proper summer weather, including scorching days. All eyes are on the forecast again, and we'll provide regular updates during the Hoppings' June 19-28 run.
Opening Day Forecast: Friday, June 19
The Met Office predicts sunny intervals and decent temperatures for the first day. However, soon after opening time, there is a 20-30% chance of rain. By afternoon to evening, this rises to 40%, but conditions may change. Friday's high could reach 24 degrees, with a low of 13 degrees.
Saturday, June 20
Temperatures drop slightly, but so does the rain risk. The chance of a wet spell remains at a low 10%, with another day of sunny intervals. The high is predicted at 21 degrees, low at 11 degrees. Good news: the sun is set to emerge at 7pm and stay out until dark, rewarding evening visitors.
Sunday, June 21
The day is due to turn cloudy and remain so all day. Temperatures are expected to reach 23 degrees, with lows of 14 degrees. The risk of rain rises to 20% over the afternoon, but overall conditions look decent.
