Heat Alert for Greater Manchester as Temperatures Hit 32C

A heat-health alert has been issued for Greater Manchester as temperatures are expected to soar to 32C during an upcoming heatwave.

Heatwave Forecast for Greater Manchester

Weather experts have warned that rising temperatures could lead to heatwaves in many parts of the country. The Met Office forecasts temperatures could reach 34C in some areas at their peak. Due to these high temperatures, the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has issued an amber heat-health alert for the East of England, parts of the Midlands, London, South East, and the South West.

A yellow alert has now also been issued for the North West, including Greater Manchester, from 11am on June 22 to 11pm on June 24. The alert warns of potential impacts on health and social care services due to the very warm weather.

Temperature Timeline

In Greater Manchester, Met Office forecasters predict temperatures will climb from Sunday, with highs of 25C expected. On Monday, highs of 29C are anticipated, before temperatures peak at 32C on Tuesday. Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday are also expected to be very hot, with highs of 30C forecast amid bright and sunny conditions.

Extreme Heat Warning

The Met Office has issued an amber extreme heat warning for parts of the UK on Monday and Tuesday. This warning highlights potential health risks for people vulnerable to extreme heat and heat-related issues for the wider population, as well as a possible increase in water safety incidents.

Greg Wolverson, deputy chief forecaster at the Met Office, said: “While heatwave criteria will be met for some in the south and south-east of England over the weekend, with temperatures into the low 30s possible, the warmth will expand and intensify at the start of next week, which, coupled with high temperatures overnight, leads to potential impacts. Temperatures will peak around the mid-30s on Monday and Tuesday. The humidity will also mean this feels closer, warmer and more uncomfortable for many. Tropical nights – where the temperature doesn’t drop below 20C – are also likely for some.”
