A veterinary nurse has revealed that Irish Wolfhounds and Great Danes are the 'easiest' dog breeds to handle in a clinical setting, citing their calm and unfazed temperaments. Eve Moorhouse, a vet nurse who owns four dogs, shared her insights on TikTok, explaining that these large breeds are often 'so unfazed by everything' due to their size.
'They don't normally know I have done anything to them,' Moorhouse said, describing how she can take blood samples from them with ease. She also noted that the breeds are 'pretty lazy' and 'gentle giants,' making them cooperative patients.
However, Moorhouse acknowledged that their size poses challenges during operations. 'I've seen it before where they don't fit on the operating table! We've had to put two operating tables together just to get them on and it takes six staff members,' she said.
Despite the logistical difficulties, she emphasised that temperament-wise, these breeds are among the best to work with. TikTok users echoed her sentiments, with one sharing that their Great Dane 'just sits there and gives them his paw when he needs a cannula put in.'
Asked whether show dogs are easier to handle, Moorhouse agreed, noting that they are generally more accustomed to handling and their owners are more experienced.
