Thousands of Facebook and Instagram users in the UK have reported being unable to access their accounts, with many seeing an 'Account Temporarily Unavailable' message when attempting to log in via a web browser.
Outage Reports Spike on Sunday Morning
Downdetector, the online outage tracking service, recorded a sharp increase in reports on Sunday morning as users across the UK complained of issues with both platforms. The problems appear to be widespread, affecting both desktop and mobile access.
According to Downdetector data, the number of outage reports began rising around 10:00 AM GMT, peaking within an hour. Users reported being unable to log in, refresh feeds, or send messages.
User Frustration Grows
Many affected users expressed frustration on alternative platforms, with some noting that they had been locked out without warning. 'I can't access my Facebook account at all. It says temporarily unavailable. This is really annoying,' one user posted on X.
Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has not yet issued a statement regarding the outage. The company's status page showed no issues at the time of reporting, leading to further confusion among users.
Previous Outages
This is not the first time Meta's platforms have experienced widespread outages. In March 2024, a similar incident affected millions of users globally for several hours. The company later attributed that outage to a technical issue during a routine maintenance operation.
As of now, there is no estimated time for restoration. Users are advised to check Downdetector for updates or try logging in again later.
