Halo 2 & 3 Remakes Teased for PlayStation Following 2026's Campaign Evolved
Halo 2 & 3 Remakes Teased for PlayStation in 2026

PlayStation gamers could soon have a wealth of classic Halo titles at their fingertips, as fresh rumours indicate that remakes of the iconic second and third instalments are in development. This follows the ground-breaking announcement that Halo Campaign Evolved, a remake of the original game, will launch on PlayStation 5 in 2026, ending its long history as an Xbox exclusive.

Insider Hints at Expanded Remake Plans

According to gaming commentator Rebs Gaming, the studio behind the franchise, Halo Studios, is reportedly working on modern remakes of both Halo 2 and Halo 3. This claim follows an IGN report where a Halo Studios executive producer hinted at additional remakes being possible.

Rebs Gaming states they conducted their own investigation, speaking with a former developer from the studio. "They told me that Halo Studios is in fact remaking the original Halo games, but they aren’t willing to share any details yet due to their non-disclosure agreement," Rebs reported. However, they clarified that the projects' development stage is unknown, ranging from early pre-production to active development alongside Halo Campaign Evolved and a new project.

Why Revisit the Classics Now?

The strategy to remake the classic trilogy makes significant sense from several angles. Firstly, it introduces the beloved series to a massive new audience on PlayStation. The original three Halo games are widely considered the peak of the franchise, with fan enthusiasm notably waning after Halo 4.

This nostalgic return to roots also allows Halo Studios to rebuild player goodwill following the mixed reception of Halo Infinite. Technologically, it grants the team further crucial experience with Unreal Engine 5, as Campaign Evolved is already switching to it from the Slipstream engine used for Infinite.

Interestingly, previous leaks from 2024 by X user TechnicalHalo, which correctly predicted Campaign Evolved, also mentioned Halo 2 and 3 remakes were planned. They suggested these new versions might adjust the campaigns' start and end points, potentially addressing the long-standing critique of Halo 2's abrupt ending. A remake could also restore famous cut content from Bungie's original, much like the new prequel missions planned for Campaign Evolved.

A Potential 2026 Anniversary Blowout

The timing could be perfect for a major announcement. 2026 marks the 25th anniversary of both the Xbox brand and the Halo franchise itself. Capitalising on this wave of nostalgia with reveals for Halo 2 and 3 remakes would be a strategic masterstroke for Microsoft and Halo Studios.

While the gaming community eagerly awaits official confirmation, Xbox has not yet publicly commented on the rumours surrounding Halo 2 or 3 remakes. For now, fans can look forward to the confirmed release of Halo Campaign Evolved in 2026 on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
