A 19-year-old man collapsed in the street after being shot in the arm in Liverpool's Toxteth area, prompting a police manhunt. Merseyside Police responded to reports of a shooting on Selbourne Street shortly after 8:40 pm on Wednesday, June 3. Officers were called to Carlingford Close, off Selbourne Street, where the victim was found with a gunshot wound to his arm.
Incident Details
The shooting is believed to have occurred in the Upper Parliament Street area. The young man was rushed to hospital and is receiving treatment for injuries that are not considered life-threatening. Residents described a heavy police and paramedic presence as the victim was discovered collapsed on the corner of Carlingford Close.
One local told the Liverpool Echo: "I heard a bang, it was like a firework and just one, then the police came racing up and down the street, there was loads of them." Another neighbour claimed police had visited Carlingford Close earlier that day and that the victim had apparently tried to flee before collapsing.
Police Investigation
A police helicopter circled overhead as officers arrived, and two cordons were established. The first covered part of Selbourne Street around Carlingford Close, while the second encompassed Upper Parliament Street, the Merseyside Caribbean Centre, and a stretch of Selbourne Street behind the centre. Scientific support officers were seen working within the cordon shortly before 11 pm.
Detective Inspector Jay Boardman said: "We are in the very early stages of this investigation and we are seeking witnesses and CCTV and Ring doorbell footage to piece together what has happened. Firearms and the reckless people who choose to carry and use them have no place on the streets of Merseyside."
