For instance, while both humans and AI could connect information about someone's residence and workplace revealed years apart, LLMs can accomplish this task far more quickly and economically.

Currently, the technology focuses on matching factual information rather than writing patterns or stylistic elements. This includes employment history, residential details, hobbies, and other personal data users might reveal across different platforms and timeframes.

Future Accessibility and Risks

While replicating the study currently requires extensive knowledge of large language models, Paleka anticipates that without proper "guardrails," this capability could become accessible to everyday users within a few years. "The fundamentals of the technology are there," he warned. "If there are no guards I fully expect someone to be able to misuse it."

The researcher expressed hope that AI companies might implement policies to prevent such misuse, but emphasized that the study's primary goal is raising public awareness while risks remain relatively low for most anonymous internet users.

For those concerned about maintaining their privacy, Paleka offers straightforward advice: "Use a throwaway account." These accounts, created specifically for single posts or limited purposes, contain minimal information that could be linked back to the user's identity.
