Rylan Clark Jokes He Doesn't Know How He Has a Radio 2 Show

Rylan Clark, the 37-year-old former X Factor star, made a hilariously candid admission about his Rylan On Saturday show on BBC Radio 2 after welcoming comedian Dom Joly, 58, as a guest last weekend.

Dom Joly’s RY Player Picks

Dom was invited to share his RY Player picks, a segment where guests reveal their favourite TV shows, guilty pleasures, and standout moments. While introducing Dom to the feature, Rylan exclaimed: "How exciting! I love this," prompting him to admit his excitement at having the Trigger Happy TV star on the show.

He confessed: "I'm very excited because I grew up watching you on my TV and now you're filling my platform, for want of a better term."

Chuckling at Rylan's remark, Dom replied: "I'm filling your platform, there you go! How are you on this radio station?"

A Candid Off-Air Conversation

Rylan then revealed that the pair had been having the same conversation off-air while Prince's hit song Purple Rain played. The presenter confessed: "I genuinely… I just said to you during Purple Rain there – I don't know how I've still got a show here!"

Dom quipped: "I know, do you think it's just the weekends? They all go home and you can do what you want."

Showing his self-deprecating sense of humour, Rylan said he could only count his colleagues, traffic reporter Sally Boazman and producer Lotte Uttley, as listeners, jokingly admitting: "I don't think anyone listens – I have Lotte on, I've got Sally on, both of them are filthy!"

"So we've got three listeners?" Dom queried, making Rylan laugh before reassuring the comedian that his mum, Linda, would be tuning in too.

The This Morning host told Dom: "Honestly! And me mum... make it four!"

Snubbed at The ARIAS

Later in the show, Rylan complained about being repeatedly overlooked by The Audio and Radio Industry Awards (The ARIAS), despite hosting the ceremony every year. During a light-hearted chat with a listener, he was told: "Firstly, how you're not up for an award for your show, I just don't know!"

Rylan replied: "Thank you, thank you! Do you know what I mean? Always snubbed at The ARIAS even though I host the thing. It kills me, I'm the host of it and I can't even get a nomination!"

Rylan On Saturday airs each Saturday from 3pm on BBC Radio 2.
