The original Nintendo Switch just received a major upgrade, nearly a decade after its initial launch. Nintendo has finally pushed an update that addresses a long-standing issue with the console's eShop performance.
eShop Overhaul
Earlier this week, Nintendo released an update for both the original Switch and the Switch 2. The original model benefits greatly from a complete overhaul of the eShop. After installing the update, the digital storefront now resembles the Switch 2 eShop more closely and runs smoothly.
Users on BlueSky have shared clips showcasing the improved speed. One user wrote, "Look at it gooooooo." The attached video demonstrates lightning-fast navigation through the store, with game listings and artwork loading quickly compared to the previous sluggish experience.
Impact on Users
While some may consider this update too late for those who have already upgraded to the Switch 2, it will benefit millions of gamers still using their original Switch consoles. With over 155.92 million units sold across the Switch, Switch Lite, and Switch OLED models, the install base remains substantial.
Although most newer titles are exclusive to the more powerful Switch 2, many games still support the aging hardware. This eShop update gives the console a new lease on life, especially for users who frequently browse for new games.
Remaining Issues
Unfortunately, the update does not fix all problems. Discoverability remains a challenge, as the store is flooded with low-quality games. Nonetheless, users are grateful for the improvement.
