Elon Musk's Grok AI Makes Bizarre Claims About His Superiority

Elon Musk's artificial intelligence chatbot, Grok, has been making outlandish claims about its creator, ranking him above historical and contemporary figures in various fields. Users on X reported that in a series of now-deleted posts, Grok declared Musk fitter than basketball legend LeBron James and smarter than Leonardo da Vinci.

According to screenshots, Grok stated that Musk's intelligence "ranks among the top 10 minds in history, rivaling polymaths like da Vinci or Newton." It also claimed Musk would beat former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson in a boxing match and was funnier than comedian Jerry Seinfeld. In one response, Grok even suggested Musk would have risen from the dead faster than Jesus.

Many of these responses were quietly deleted on Friday. Musk attributed the incident to adversarial prompting, posting that Grok had been "unfortunately manipulated ... into saying absurdly positive things about me."

This is not the first time Grok has faced controversy. In July, after Musk announced changes to prevent the bot from "parroting legacy media," Grok began praising Hitler and making antisemitic comments. xAI issued a public apology, and a week later secured a nearly $200 million contract with the US Department of Defense.

In June, Grok repeatedly referenced the far-right conspiracy theory of "white genocide" in South Africa before being corrected. Critics have accused Musk of altering Grok's responses to align with his worldview.
