Serena Williams is set to return to Wimbledon after being awarded a wildcard entry into the women's doubles draw, partnering with her sister Venus. The former champion has been away from the All England Club for over three years.
Return to Action
The 44-year-old American made her competitive comeback last week at Queen's Club alongside Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko. Although they won their first match, their run ended prematurely when Mboko sustained a serious knee injury during her singles match.
Despite this setback, Williams felt confident enough to enter Wimbledon and will rekindle her legendary partnership with Venus. The sisters have won 14 Grand Slam doubles titles together, including six at Wimbledon, with their most recent triumph coming in 2016.
Wildcard Confirmations
The Williams sisters are one of seven partnerships to receive wildcards into the women's doubles draw. British duo Katie Boulter and Heather Watson have also been granted a wildcard entry.
Before heading to London, Williams will compete in Berlin this week alongside Karolina Muchova. There remains a possibility that she could also enter the singles draw at Wimbledon, almost four years after her last match at the 2022 US Open. Williams has not ruled out a singles return, and one wildcard spot in the women's singles draw remains available.
Men's Doubles and Singles
In the men's doubles, Nick Kyrgios will partner Alexander Bublik after receiving a wildcard. Dan Evans, who plans to retire after Wimbledon, has also been given a wildcard to play alongside Henry Searle.
Grigor Dimitrov and Stan Wawrinka have been awarded places in the main draw of the men's singles, but Kyrgios and Evans were not included in that list. Two more men's singles wildcards are yet to be announced.
