Sean Steur's Brother Defends Father Over Ajax Transfer Row After Newcastle Move
Sean Steur's Brother Defends Father Over Ajax Transfer Row

Sean Steur's move from Ajax to Newcastle United has sparked controversy in the Netherlands, with the 18-year-old's brother Roy defending their father Johan against criticism over the transfer.

Steur completed a £23million move to the Magpies earlier this month after contract talks with Ajax stalled. The prodigy had made 25 appearances for the Eredivisie side last season and was expected to sign a new deal.

Former Ajax technical director Alex Kroes had seemingly secured a long contract extension for Steur, but that collapsed after his departure. New technical director Jordi Cruyff was unable to finalize an agreement, with Dutch media criticizing the role of Steur's father, who reportedly made a list of unrealistic demands.

Brother Roy Defends Father Johan

Roy Steur, a 21-year-old goalkeeper for FC Volendam, defended his father in an interview with NH Nieuws. "It doesn't really bother us, because we know what our father is like. He protects us and is always there for us," Roy said. "People who know my father realize that what is being said about him is pure bulls--t. People come forward with incorrect information. We attach little importance to anything they say."

Family is clearly important to Sean Steur, who has three brothers. After completing his move to Newcastle, he said: "My parents and three brothers are incredibly important to me. I can't thank them enough for what they've done for me."

Adapting to Life in England

Roy revealed he speaks with Sean every day since the transfer and believes he will adapt well despite being over 600 miles from home. "We call each other every day to talk about our day. He asked me what it's like to make new friends. I told him it happens naturally. Sean is someone who enjoys being around people; fortunately, he finds it easy to make friends, too."

Steur played the first 45 minutes for Newcastle in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Darlington on Saturday, continuing to impress the coaching staff and senior players.
