Newcastle United's players are 'looking forward' to playing with the club's new signings and are confident they will provide the right environments for them to succeed, according to defender Fabian Schar.
Schar, who signed a one-year contract extension earlier this summer, believes Ewen Jaouen, Bazoumana Toure, and Sean Steur will prove to be 'great additions to the team'. The Magpies are undergoing a significant reset this summer, with 10 first-team players leaving the club on a permanent basis.
Departures and arrivals
Kieran Trippier and Emil Krafth headed the departures on the club's retained list, with John Ruddy, Max Thompson, and Matt Targett also leaving on free transfers. Aaron Ramsdale returned to parent club Southampton. Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali have completed moves to Barcelona and Tottenham respectively, with Newcastle recouping over £169 million for them this summer. Travis Hernes and Joe White have sealed permanent moves to FC Groningen and Crewe Alexandra.
The departures have been offset by the arrivals of goalkeeper Jaouen from Stade Reims, winger Toure from Hoffenheim, and midfielder Steur from Ajax, all aged 20 or under. This marks a deliberate shift in transfer policy to sign top young talent from outside the Premier League, but it has raised fears that United may lack the experience to compete at the top end of the table.
Schar's confidence in young signings
However, Schar believes the experience already within the building will help those young players thrive. 'They are very young, talented players who will be great additions for the team,' Schar told Newcastle United's official website. 'If you are so young and you come into a team like Newcastle, you want to showcase what you can. They've all done really well in the first few years of their careers to be able to come to this club. It'll be quite easy for them to settle in because it's a good group of lads and we'll be looking forward to playing with them and seeing how they play.'
The Magpies are still expected to be busy in the transfer market, with a new goalkeeper, a new full-back, and a new midfielder eyed at the very least before the transfer window slams shut on September 1.
