Angelina Jolie is reportedly planning a major life change following the 18th birthday of her youngest children, twins Knox and Vivienne, whom she shares with ex-husband Brad Pitt. The actress, now 51, is said to be ready to leave Los Angeles and experience the world now that all her children are legal adults.
Details of the Planned Move
According to a source who spoke to People, Jolie has "been talking about leaving Los Angeles for years" and wants her children to travel the world. The source added: "She's excited that they can all do more of that together now." The twins turned 18 on 12 July and also graduated from high school earlier this month.
Jolie shares six children with Pitt: Maddox, 24, Pax, 22, Zahara, 21, Shiloh, 20, and the twins. Most of the children have dropped Pitt from their surname following the couple's contentious breakup in 2016. Zahara and Maddox were the most recent to do so, publishing notices in the Los Angeles Daily Journal.
Background on the Divorce
Jolie and Pitt were together for 12 years but married for only two before their split. Their divorce involved bitter custody battles and court fights over assets. However, the source told People that since the divorce was finalized, Jolie has been "happy to have more freedom and flexibility in her life," though they emphasized that her children have "always been her priority."
Previous Statements on Leaving LA
Jolie had previously expressed her desire to leave Los Angeles. In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter last year, she said she remained in the city "because I have to be here" but "as soon as they're 18, I'll be able to leave." She added: "When you have a big family, you want them to have privacy, peace, safety. I have a house now to raise my children, but sometimes this place can be... that humanity that I found across the world is not what I grew up with here." At the time, she suggested she might move to Cambodia or spend time visiting family members around the world.
Property Sale
Just a few months ago, Jolie put her California home up for sale, listing the compound at just under $30 million. The property, once owned by legendary filmmaker Cecil B. DeMille, covers 2.1 acres and has six bedrooms and 10 bathrooms. A source told the Daily Mail that Jolie was struggling to sell the property, saying: "Angelina is smart, she knew it would take a while to sell the property even though it is gorgeous and legendary, because the housing market has slowed in Los Angeles, but it still is annoying." The Mirror approached Jolie's representatives for comment.
