Alexander Isak and Sweden face a decisive World Cup Group F clash against Japan in the early hours of Friday, with the Liverpool striker potentially earning a modest bonus of around £23,000 if the team is eliminated. According to Swedish outlet Sportbladet, players in the national squad receive between 15 and 20 per cent of the Swedish FA's net World Cup profit, meaning an early exit would leave each player with roughly £23,000.
Isak's Key Role in Sweden's Campaign
Isak has been instrumental for Sweden, scoring once and providing two assists in their opening 4-0 win over Tunisia. He also set up Anthony Elanga in the second match, though Sweden were thrashed 5-1 by the Netherlands. Having started both games, the Liverpool star has looked sharp and will aim to carry that form into the must-win fixture against Japan. Even with a victory, Sweden still need the Netherlands to beat Tunisia to advance.
Fan Optimism and Early Return Benefits
Liverpool fans have been encouraged by Isak's performances after a difficult debut season at Anfield, plagued by a four-month lay-off with a broken leg suffered in a challenge with Micky van de Ven. One fan on X said: 'If Isak can stay fit and we get the wingers to accommodate him, we're hitting 25 G/As next season.' Another added: 'Isak is an elite level footballer. Looks so sharp. Keep him fit and Liverpool can win anything.' A third stated: 'Isak is ridiculous man. We're going to make movies under Iraola next season.'
An early exit could benefit Liverpool, allowing Isak to rest and prepare for pre-season under new manager Andoni Iraola. Isak scored just four goals last season after his £125 million British-record move from Newcastle United last September.
