Will Ferry Back in Dundee Utd Contention After £1.8m Rejection

Ferry Returns to Squad After Transfer Turmoil

Will Ferry is back in the Dundee United squad and available for their Premier Sports Cup clash with Arbroath. The vice-captain had missed the first two games of the season after turning down a £1.8 million move to a Czech side earlier this month.

United chiefs took the decision to leave Ferry out of the squad so he could consider his future. He missed the win at Stirling and the defeat at Montrose but is now back in contention for Saturday's Tannadice clash.

Manager Confirms Ferry's Commitment

Jim Goodwin said: “The situation has been understandable and you see it at a lot of clubs when there is interest in one of your key players. The types of bids we’re talking about, as a club you have a decision to make. As manager, you’re always a little bit selfish and want to be playing your best team, you want your best players available. As a club that was the decision we came to, but Will is back in with the group, has trained well this week and may have a chance for the game tomorrow.”

Goodwin added: “He’s always been fit and in about it, it’s just been the situation. It is what it is, you see it all over Europe, not wanting to risk injury to players and things like that. The decision has been made and he’s now back involved, which we’re all extremely pleased about - me, certainly, as manager because he’s such an important player.”

Ferry 100% Committed to United

The United manager has spoken at length to Ferry and knows he is fully committed. Goodwin claimed: “Will has loved his time at Dundee United up to now, he is very committed to the cause here. He understands the situation, if we don’t get a fee we think is acceptable then he won’t be going. At the same time, we had a really good bid in a few weeks ago and Will decided it wasn’t for him. It goes both ways, there’s got to be a positive outcome for all parties. As of now, Will Ferry is still a Dundee United player and from a manager’s point of view I hope that remains the case because he’ll certainly be very difficult to replace.”

Future Interest Expected

Goodwin does expect more interest in Ferry before the end of the window and thinks he has been one of United’s best signings of late. He added: “Will has been fine, I have had good dialogue with him and speaking to him regularly about the situation. He has ambitions, of course he has like any young player. He’s been one of the signings of the last five or six years at this club. A young player up here from Cheltenham Town on a free, developing as he has and to have two such good, consistent seasons has obviously raised eyebrows for a lot of people. Will’s metrics, both offensively and defensively, have been through the roof and I’d imagine his name is jumping off the page to a few teams out there. It means we’re doing something right.”

Jesse Randall Set for Debut

United are also set to hand New Zealand international Jesse Randall his debut against Arbroath.
