Roy Jones Jr has demanded £10million to fight Tommy Fury in the boxing ring.
Jones Jr, 57, still remains largely involved in the boxing scene. The boxing icon retired from professional boxing in 2018 after defeating Scott Sigmon on points. But the former four-weight world champion returned just a year later, clashing with Dion Rizzuto in a non-scored exhibition bout.
The American made another boxing comeback in 2020 against Mike Tyson. Much to the disappointment of many fans, though, the two legends fought to a rather uninspiring draw. The 57-year-old did not stop there after returning to the professional ring in 2023 - but was outclassed by former UFC lightweight champion, Anthony Pettis.
He has shown no signs of slowing down and is now eyeing up a fight with Fury. After the ex-Love Island star's wins over Jake Paul and KSI in 2023, there had been talks of a future clash with Jones Jr. Rumours of a 2024 dust-up in Saudi Arabia began swirling, before John Fury admitted that the team had moved on after stating that Jones Jr was 'too old.'
After being involved in multiple high-profile fights against the likes of James Toney and Bernard Hopkins, it seems as if Jones Jr has the itch to compete again - but only for the right price. "Is me vs. Tommy Fury dead? Nothing's dead forever. Roy Jones is still alive, Tommy Fury is still alive. Nothing's dead forever," he told BettingLounge.
"Who knows? For the right money, it would force me into the gym to prepare, yes. If they give me $10 million, of course. Ten and upwards, yes. If they don't give me $10 million and upwards, no. I'm not wasting my time."
He added: "For Tommy Fury, the legacy is the money. He would never have made this kind of money in regular boxing. So he was smart, he found his niche [Fighting Eddie Hall] and he capitalised on it. His brother is 'the' boxing guy. He's more like the Misfits guy, and he's making a lot of money doing the smart thing, fighting on the Misfits shows."
Fury will return to the ring this weekend just days after welcoming the arrival of his first son and second child with fiancee Molly-Mae Hague. The younger brother of Tyson, Fury will take on former World's Strongest Man Eddie Hall. The 38-year-old does have some slight experience in the ring, having previously lost to Thor Bjornsson.
The 'Beast' will carry a huge weight advantage into the fight, but Fury is unfazed. “I'm not really worried about his size to be honest,” he told Fox Sports Australia. “Because I've been sparring really big guys for the past three months.
"All guys can hit hard at the end of the day, every heavyweight in the world can hit hard. I'm used to being around heavyweights and feeling their power.... It's kind of on me to outclass him with speed and movement. It's kind of a straightforward task. There's only one real thing to look out for, and that's it."
