Rangers have been told that a swap deal for Bologna captain Lewis Ferguson could clear up Nico Raskin's future, according to former Ibrox player Ian McCall. Raskin, who is at the World Cup with Belgium, has not ruled out a Rangers exit as he awaits his first conversation with new boss Derek McInnes.
Swap Deal Proposal
Speaking to BBC Sportsound, McCall said: "I am tipped a deal done - and this is not inside information - I am tipping a deal done for a swap with Raskin and Ferguson, and there will be a bit of money involved. I think Raskin will go to Bologna and Ferguson will go to Rangers. It's a total hunch."
Raskin's Ibrox contract has two years left, and Rangers could maximise profit by selling him this summer. He has been linked with Atalanta, but McCall believes a move to Bologna could materialise. Ferguson, a Scotland international, played under McInnes at Aberdeen and has struggled for regular game time at Bologna last season.
Rangers' Summer Strategy
Rangers are focusing on players with SPFL experience this summer, having already signed Lawrence Shankland from Hearts. Ferguson, 26, impressed at the World Cup for Steve Clarke's side. Reports in Italy had suggested he was close to signing a contract extension with Bologna, but after boss Vincenzo Italiano joined Besiktas, those murmurs have gone quiet.
McCall added: "I think Raskin is worth more than Ferguson. I think Raskin is potentially top notch." The veteran boss felt Bologna should pay a fee as part of the swap. Rangers have been urged to act quickly to secure Ferguson's return to Scottish football.
