Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has offered his assessment of the Reds' preparations for their Premier League opener against Brentford following their commanding 4-0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in Singapore.
Singapore Showcase Demonstrates Liverpool's Sharpness
The Merseyside club delivered an impressive performance at the National Stadium, with Darwin Nunez opening the scoring before young talent Bobby Clark doubled their advantage. Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah added further goals to complete the comprehensive victory.
"It was a good test," declared Van Dijk. "We had to work very hard, especially in the first half. They had a lot of possession and we had to be patient. But we were very clinical and that's a good sign."
Brentford Challenge Looms Large
With Liverpool's Premier League campaign kicking off against Brentford in just over two weeks, Van Dijk emphasised the importance of their remaining preparation time. "We know what to expect from Brentford," the Dutch defender stated. "They're a very difficult team to play against, very organised. We have to be ready for that."
The centre-back highlighted the significance of their preseason tour, noting: "These games in Singapore are very important for our fitness and for implementing the ideas of the manager. We're getting there step by step."
New System Taking Shape
Under Jurgen Klopp's guidance, Liverpool appear to be adapting well to their tactical adjustments, with Van Dijk acknowledging: "We're working on a lot of things in training and you could see some of that coming together against good opposition. There's still work to do, but the signs are positive."
The commanding performance in humid Singapore conditions demonstrated Liverpool's growing match fitness as they build towards their August 13th showdown with Thomas Frank's Bees at the Gtech Community Stadium.
