The Guardian Launches Daily Football Quiz On the ball

The Guardian has launched its first daily football game, On the ball, as part of an expansion of its puzzles hub. The game challenges users to guess a men's top league footballer in five attempts, marking the first time the publisher has ventured beyond word and number puzzles.

Alongside the football quiz, the Guardian has introduced a new mini crossword and Film reveal, a tile-based game where players guess film titles from clues. These additions follow a revamped Guardian app in May, which introduced a puzzles hub and now serves over one million daily active users.

Liz Wynn, chief supporter officer at Guardian Media Group, said the puzzles offer a fun way to upgrade downtime. The new games are available in the Puzzles tab of the Guardian app, supported by a marketing campaign in October.
