Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Says 'Yes Every Day' to Man Utd Return Amid Manager Links
Solskjaer ready for Man Utd return as manager links grow

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has publicly declared his willingness to return as manager of Manchester United, stating he would accept the opportunity without hesitation if the club asked him back.

Solskjaer's Open Door to Old Trafford

The Norwegian, who was sacked by United in November 2021, made his feelings clear during a public appearance in September 2024. Speaking at the Oslo Business Forum while Erik ten Hag was still in charge, Solskjaer left no doubt about his enduring loyalty.

"If the family [United] asks, I would say yes every day of the week," Solskjaer admitted. He added, "It feels wrong to talk about jobs that other people have now, but I would say yes, of course."

Analysing His First Spell in Charge

Solskjaer's initial tenure at Old Trafford lasted almost three years. His record includes:

  • Managing 168 games, winning 91 of them for a 54% win rate.
  • Securing a third-place and then a second-place finish in the Premier League.
  • Leading the team to a Europa League final in 2021.

He was ultimately dismissed following a heavy defeat to Watford. During his time, he oversaw significant transfers, bringing in players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane, and the highly successful Bruno Fernandes. Upon his departure, Solskjaer insisted he left the club with a "better squad" and a positive environment.

The Current Managerial Landscape

Solskjaer is now among the leading candidates with bookmakers to become United's next permanent manager. His availability, as he is currently without a club, contrasts with other contenders like Oliver Glasner, who is committed to Crystal Palace.

His win percentage remains higher than other potential candidates such as Ruben Amorim and David Moyes. Since leaving United, Solskjaer had a brief stint in charge of Turkish side Besiktas but remains most closely associated with his former club.

The situation highlights the ongoing uncertainty at Old Trafford as the club contemplates its long-term leadership, with a club legend openly waiting in the wings and ready to answer the call once more.
