Arne Slot Confirms Liverpool Return for Tsimikas as Salah Successor Speculation Grows
Slot Confirms Tsimikas Return, Salah Replacement Named

Arne Slot Outlines Liverpool's Summer Plans Amid Transition Phase

With just six games remaining in Liverpool's 2025/26 season, manager Arne Slot has already begun preparations for what would be his third campaign at Anfield. The Reds are set to conclude the current season without silverware, with Champions League qualification still unconfirmed as they navigate what Slot describes as a period of "transition."

The impending departures of Andy Robertson and Mohamed Salah, combined with Hugo Ekitike's long-term Achilles injury sustained during their 2-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, have left the reigning Premier League champions facing significant challenges ahead of the summer transfer window.

Tsimikas Set for Anfield Return After Roma Loan Spell

Slot has confirmed that one position has already been addressed internally, with Kostas Tsimikas scheduled to return to Liverpool when his loan spell at Roma concludes in May. The Greek international left Anfield last August to join the Serie A side, but his career on Merseyside is poised for revival.

Speaking ahead of Sunday's Merseyside derby against Everton, Slot explained: "Last year we made quite a lot of signings, and that's why we traded that much. In four windows we had a net spend of £150 million. That says what kind of club we are. We know we are changing at least two players, but Kostas is coming back."

The return of Tsimikas helps address the left-back vacancy created by Robertson's impending departure, providing Slot with experienced defensive options as he reshapes his squad.

Search for Salah's Successor Intensifies

While Robertson's replacement has been confirmed internally, finding an adequate successor to Mohamed Salah presents a far more complex challenge. The Egyptian superstar announced during the March international break that he would be leaving Anfield at season's end, creating a void that borders on impossible to fill given his extraordinary goal and assist contributions over nearly a decade.

Liverpool legend John Aldridge has identified West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen as a potential candidate to succeed Salah. The 67-year-old former Reds striker, who scored 64 goals in 104 appearances for the club, believes Bowen possesses the necessary attributes to thrive at Anfield.

Aldridge told Boyle Sports: "I've looked at Jarrod Bowen for some years now, and I really like the way he plays football, and what he offers West Ham. I joined Liverpool when I was 28 or 29. There are a good couple of years left in him. I've been saying this to a lot of ex-players for a couple of years now."

The former Liverpool forward elaborated on why Bowen represents a more solid option than younger alternatives: "Jarrod Bowen is a more solid option than Yan Diomande because he's used to the Premier League, he's used to British life. For someone to take over from Mohamed Salah, it's got to be someone solid, someone who's done it. Ticks all the boxes, has experience. Someone with pace, we need pace. Mo has lost a bit of pace, we need that up top. That is the criteria."

Aldridge acknowledged potential obstacles to any move for Bowen, noting: "If West Ham stay up, then it would be hard to get him, and he's probably not what the owners look at, age-wise. But again, I'm a bit of a dinosaur, so why not? For what's out there, if, hypothetically, we were to get him, he could get you 15 goals a season and a lot of assists."

As Liverpool prepare for significant squad changes this summer, Slot faces the dual challenge of integrating returning players like Tsimikas while identifying suitable replacements for departing legends. The coming months will prove crucial in determining whether Liverpool can return to their former glory under the Dutch manager's guidance.
