Slovenia manager Matjaž Kek has declared that a potential rift with Manchester United concerning striker Benjamin Sesko has been definitively settled.
The controversy emerged after Sesko sustained a knee injury during his most recent appearance for the Red Devils against Tottenham Hotspur. This knock subsequently ruled the young forward out of Slovenia's international fixtures during the November break.
Initial Frustration and Demand for Respect
Prior to the resolution, manager Kek had publicly expressed his frustration, revealing that the Slovenian Football Association had not received any official medical documentation from the Premier League giants.
"With all due respect to a great club like Manchester United, we have officially not received anything yet; no papers, no documents," Kek stated earlier in the week. He emphasised the expertise of the Slovenian medical team and demanded "maximum respect" for the national team, highlighting that Slovenia's recent record against England demonstrated their competitive stature.
Swift Resolution Through Communication
However, Kek has now clarified the situation, confirming that communication was swiftly established between the two camps. He explained that the issue was resolved promptly once direct contact was made.
"The moment communication was established between us and the Manchester United medical team, the problem was solved in five minutes," Kek affirmed. "I thank the club for their cooperation. Our medical team checked their documentation. The matter was quickly resolved."
He concluded by wishing Sesko a "successful rehabilitation and a speedy return to the field," noting that the player is at his best when playing football.
Context and Looking Ahead
Benjamin Sesko has scored twice for United since his high-profile transfer from German side RB Leipzig. His absence was felt by Slovenia as they prepared for their penultimate World Cup qualifier against Kosovo, followed by a final group match against Sweden.
This swift resolution averts a prolonged dispute between the international team and the club, ensuring the focus remains on Sesko's recovery and future contributions for both Manchester United and Slovenia.
