Scheffler and Spieth Weigh In on LIV Golf Players' PGA Tour Return
Scheffler and Spieh on LIV Golf PGA Return

Jordan Spieth has expressed confidence that the right decision will be made regarding whether LIV Golf competitors can rejoin the PGA Tour, while Scottie Scheffler delivered a succinct response when asked for his perspective. The Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF) confirmed on Wednesday that it will cease its financial support for LIV Golf at the end of the 2026 season, casting uncertainty over the league's future and its players.

Earlier this year, the PGA Tour allowed LIV players to return through the Returning Member Programme, which saw Brooks Koepka and Patrick Reed rejoin, albeit with financial penalties. Reed is currently serving a suspension until August. Following the PIF announcement, speculation has intensified about LIV's viability, with reports indicating that several players have contacted the PGA Tour to explore return possibilities.

Speaking at the Cadillac Championship in Doral, Florida, where he sits second after an opening round of seven-under-par, Spieth addressed the issue. "I think there's just too many unknowns for me to have a good gauge on what would happen," Spieth said. "If there's a system for Brooks and a system for Patrick Reed, does that stay the same for guys in the same category as those two coming back or does it change now? Does it change for guys who sued and dropped their membership? There's just a lot of different things that happened over the last four years for that. I'm kind of glad I'm not in that room, and I trust the guys that are in that room to make the right decision."

Scheffler, who carded a one-under-par opening round and is tied for 27th, offered a more straightforward response when asked about LIV players returning. "I just got off the golf course," Scheffler said. "I don't know what you want from me," the four-time major champion added with a laugh.

The PIF's decision to withdraw funding has left LIV Golf's future in limbo, with many questioning how the league will operate beyond 2026. The PGA Tour's Returning Member Programme has already facilitated some returns, but the criteria for future re-admissions remain unclear. Spieth emphasised the complexity of the situation, noting that each player's circumstances differ based on their past actions, such as lawsuits or membership status.

As the Cadillac Championship continues, both Spieth and Scheffler remain focused on their game, while the broader golfing world watches for developments on LIV Golf's fate and the potential reintegration of its players into the PGA Tour.
