Matildas captain Sam Kerr and American soccer star Kristie Mewis have offered fans a first, intimate look inside their glamorous wedding ceremony, which took place on New Year's Eve in Perth.
A Festive Celebration at Villa Dionysus
In a post shared to Instagram Stories on New Year's Day, the Australian football icon posed in her wedding tuxedo in front of a huge celebratory '2026' display. She was joined by rugby player Tyson Hodge and friend Josh Hodge, also dressed in tuxedos, as the group partied into the night. Sam appeared in jubilant spirits after saying 'I do' with Kristie earlier that day.
A second post showcased the newlyweds' luxurious view from their suite at the Crown Perth hotel and casino, overlooking the expansive pool and picturesque Swan River. 'No better place today,' Sam captioned the image.
Emotional Vows and Stunning Attire
The ceremony commenced at 5.30pm (AWST) at the magnificent Venetian-inspired estate, Villa Dionysus, located just 23km north-east of Perth's CBD. Kristie Mewis, 34, looked breathtaking in a sparkling wedding gown featuring a white lace corset that finished at her thigh, overlaid with a transparent dress adorned with seams of sparkly material.
Sam Kerr, 32, dazzled in an all-black tuxedo, complete with a white boutonniere and bow tie. In one of the day's most poignant moments, the Aussie superstar carried the couple's seven-month-old son, Jagger, down the aisle, which brought Mewis to tears. 'That is going to be gut-wrenching for me, I will sob when that happens,' Kristie had predicted on the Mewis Squared podcast before the wedding.
The happy couple held hands and gazed lovingly at each other as they recited vows in front of over 100 guests at the Swan Valley venue.
Matildas Team-Mates and Glamorous Guests
A host of big names from women's football arrived to celebrate the special day. Adhering to a black dress code, guests included Kerr's Matildas team-mates. Emily Van Egmond wore a black tuxedo with a bow tie, while Arsenal defender Steph Catley chose a simple yet glamorous black strapless dress.
Other Matildas stars in attendance were Alanna Kennedy and Mackenzie Arnold, who chatted as they boarded a coach from the Crown hotel to the venue. Despite Perth's searing 35-degree heat, the wedding party celebrated under parasols and an outdoor chandelier, with a violin and cello duo providing the soundtrack.
Prior to the event, Mewis admitted to nerves about addressing the large crowd. 'For me to wrap my head around talking to 120 people in one night is a lot,' she said on her podcast.
The stunning Villa Dionysus, set on seven acres in the Swan Valley, provided a sensational backdrop with its 18th-century Venetian inspiration, marble render, and quartz balustrading, marking the perfect start to the new year for the football power couple.
