Benched Giants QB Russell Wilson to Try Broadcasting on CBS This Sunday
Russell Wilson to Join CBS's NFL Today Show

While his New York Giants teammates enjoy a rare late-season weekend off, veteran quarterback Russell Wilson will be clocking in for a different kind of work. The 37-year-old signal-caller, who hasn't started a game since Week 3, is set to make a foray into sports broadcasting.

From Coin Tosses to Commentary Booth

With the Giants' season effectively over at a dismal 2-11 record, and the team on their bye week, Wilson has accepted an invitation to join the CBS studio show The NFL Today this Sunday. He will provide analysis on the Week 14 slate of games, offering his unique perspective as a current player and former Super Bowl champion.

Wilson's role on the field has diminished sharply in recent months. After being replaced by rookie Jaxson Dart following Week 3, he has been relegated to the team's third-choice quarterback, behind Dart and backup Jameis Winston. His primary game-day duty in recent weeks has been as a team captain, a role voted by his teammates, leading the squad out for the pre-game coin toss.

A Potential Glimpse of a Post-Playing Career

This weekend's broadcast gig is being viewed by many as a potential audition for Wilson's life after football. With his chances of reclaiming the starting job in New York looking slim and his future with the Giants beyond this season uncertain, exploring opportunities in front of the camera seems a logical step.

Wilson is no stranger to the spotlight. Married to global R&B superstar Ciara, the pair are one of the world's most recognised celebrity couples. They share three children—Sienna, Win, and Amora—while Ciara has a son, Future Zahir, from her previous relationship with rapper Future. Wilson's comfort in the public eye and his articulate nature could make him a natural fit for a media role.

Nevertheless, sources suggest the veteran is expected to pursue opportunities to continue playing in the NFL next season. Whether any team will offer him a chance to compete for a starting position remains one of the off-season's big questions.

Joining an Established CBS Line-Up

On Sunday, Wilson will join the regular panel on The NFL Today, which features host James Brown and analysts including former MVP quarterback Matt Ryan, ex-receiver Nate Burleson, and Super Bowl-winning coach Bill Cowher.

The show will air ahead of one of the weekend's key fixtures: the 1pm ET battle for the AFC North between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Baltimore Ravens. For Wilson, it will be a chance to showcase a different set of skills, potentially paving the way for a seamless transition whenever he decides to finally hang up his cleats.
