Cristiano Ronaldo was at the centre of a heated altercation in the aftermath of Al-Nassr's 2-0 victory over Al-Ahli in the Saudi Pro League. The match, played at Alawwal Park on Wednesday evening, saw Al-Nassr extend their lead at the top of the table to eight points, but the on-field success was overshadowed by post-match chaos.
Match Recap
Goals from Ronaldo and Kingsley Coman secured the win for Al-Nassr, marking their 16th consecutive league victory and 20th across all competitions. The result put them in a commanding position with four games remaining, but the mood soured immediately after the final whistle.
Post-Match Confrontation
Al-Ahli defender Merih Demiral was seen arguing with Ronaldo as players and staff intervened to separate them. Demiral then confronted Coman, who gestured at him before retreating. Nawaf Boushal also exchanged heated words with Ivan Toney, who walked away from the altercation.
Demiral escalated tensions by retrieving one of his Asian Champions League medals, putting it around his neck, and taunting Al-Nassr fans by biting it and pumping his fists. Meanwhile, Mohamed Simakan took a victory lap with an Al-Nassr flag, waving it in front of Demiral before handing it to Ronaldo, who laughed with teammates and attempted to plant it in the turf.
Ronaldo's Response
After the dust settled, Ronaldo took a jab at Demiral in his post-match interview, laughing as he said: "Five Champions, I have. I have five, five." He also expressed frustration with the state of the league, stating: "Everyone complains, everyone does it more than they should do. This is football, this is not a war."
Ronaldo added that he plans to speak with league officials in the summer, citing "many, many, many bad things" and calling for improvement: "We should give examples, not only here, but also for Europe. We want to compete with them to be one of the best leagues in the world."
Demiral's Reaction
Demiral, meanwhile, accused the referees of bias, telling reporters: "All the referees, wallahi, crazy, my friends." He pointed to a tackle on his leg, claiming it "almost broke" his foot, and criticised the league for favouring Al-Nassr: "Everything they have to Nassr, they want to achieve something. Wallahi, shame."
The incident underscores the growing tensions in the Saudi Pro League as the title race intensifies, with Al-Nassr on the brink of glory.
