Paris Saint-Germain will face Arsenal in the Champions League final after a 1-1 draw with Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena secured a 6-5 aggregate semi-final victory.
Following the astonishing first leg in Paris, where the European champions won 5-4 in a nine-goal thriller, this return leg was a more measured but equally captivating affair. Ousmane Dembele's third-minute goal gave PSG a two-goal cushion in the tie, and although Harry Kane scored deep into stoppage time for Bayern, the hosts could not force extra time.
Early Breakthrough
PSG took the lead in the tie inside three minutes. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia raced down the left and pulled the ball back for Dembele, who hammered a first-time finish into the roof of the net. Bayern were furious not to be awarded a penalty midway through the half when Vitinha's clearance struck the arm of teammate Joao Neves, but the referee deemed it not handball as it was another PSG player who made the contact.
Neuer Heroics Keep Bayern Alive
Manuel Neuer produced a series of outstanding saves to keep Bayern in the contest. He denied Joao Neves' header, then in the second half saved twice in quick succession from Desire Doue and Kvaratskhelia. Doue also forced the best stop yet from Neuer with a low drive, and later blasted an effort inches wide.
Late Drama
Harry Kane finally found space in the box and lashed a finish into the roof of the net in the fourth minute of stoppage time, setting up a nervous finale. However, Bayern had left themselves insufficient time to seriously unsettle the visitors, and PSG held on to book their place in Budapest on May 30 against Mikel Arteta's Arsenal.
Luis Enrique's side had looked likeliest to add to their tally and put the semi-final beyond doubt, but Neuer's heroics kept Bayern's hopes alive until the end. Ultimately, the holders did enough to progress.
