Arsenal marked their first Premier League title since 2004 with a relaxed 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Sunday. Owner Stan Kroenke watched from the stands as Mikel Arteta's side secured the win through goals from Gabriel Jesus and Noni Madueke, before Jean-Philippe Mateta scored a late consolation for the hosts.
Teenager Max Dowman became the youngest player to start a Premier League match at 16 years and 144 days, contributing to the build-up of Jesus's opener. Arsenal were presented with the trophy after the game, with thousands of fans staying behind to celebrate. Arteta said: 'We already talked about what we have to do in Budapest, how we’re going to use all the incredible energy that we’re all carrying towards that final. We can’t wait to write a new chapter in the history of our club and win the Champions League.'
Crystal Palace, who face Rayo Vallecano in the Conference League final on Wednesday, had an equaliser from Yéremy Pino ruled out for offside. Manager Oliver Glasner, emotional as he addressed fans, said: 'I came here as a stranger and now after two years I feel like I’m a south Londoner.' He added that he had rejected many offers for his next role and remains fully focused on Palace.
Both managers rested players ahead of European finals. Arteta gave Christian Nørgaard his first league start and deployed Martín Zubimendi at right-back, potentially eyeing a solution for the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain. Palace's Adam Wharton limped off but is expected to be fit for their final.
