Tennessee Titans cornerback L'Jarius Sneed, a two-time Super Bowl champion, has been indicted on a misdemeanor charge for allegedly failing to report a felony, nearly a year after a shooting incident in Texas.
The Indictment and Allegations
A grand jury in Texas indicted the 28-year-old NFL player on Tuesday. Sneed is accused of observing a felony that could have resulted in serious bodily harm or death and knowingly failing to report it to law enforcement. This indictment relates to an incident that allegedly took place in December 2024.
The Civil Lawsuit and Shooting Details
The legal troubles for Sneed began to surface earlier this year. In April, it was revealed that Christian Nshimiyimana, a 23-year-old Texas man, had filed a civil lawsuit against the athlete, seeking at least $1 million in damages.
According to the lawsuit, the incident occurred on December 6 in Carrollton, Texas. Nshimiyimana, who owns an exotic car rental business, was sitting inside a Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon on a dealer lot at One Legacy Motors. The suit alleges that bullets were fired from a Lamborghini Urus driving past the location.
Fortunately, neither Nshimiyimana nor anyone else was struck by the gunfire. The lawsuit included a still from surveillance video that purportedly shows an arm reaching out of an SUV with what is described as a pistol, circled in red.
Nshimiyimana accused Sneed and a defendant listed as John Doe of "an unprovoked attack in cold blood and broad daylight." He recalled seeing Sneed and his assistant at the dealership but did not recognise the NFL player. The suit suggests the defendants may have mistaken Nshimiyimana for someone else.
Aftermath and Legal Proceedings
Following the shooting, the Carrollton Police Department arrested Sneed and his alleged accomplice for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Further allegations emerged from Attorney Levi McCathern, who claimed that Sneed and a woman identifying herself as his mother made threatening calls to Nshimiyimana. The alleged purpose of these calls was to discourage him from cooperating with police or retaining legal counsel.
Nshimiyimana officially filed his civil lawsuit on February 20 in Dallas County, Texas.
Sneed, who was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2020 from Louisiana Tech, won Super Bowls with the Chiefs in 2022 and 2023 before being traded to the Titans in early 2024. His 2024 season with Tennessee was cut short after the first five games due to a quadriceps injury that landed him on injured reserve. He made seven appearances this year, registering 26 tackles.
The Tennessee Titans have been approached for comment regarding the indictment.
