AC Milan are on the verge of securing a significant January transfer coup, with advanced talks underway to bring West Ham United striker Niclas Fullkrug to Serie A on an initial loan deal.
Loan Deal with Permanent Option
The proposed agreement, as reported by Daily Mail Sport, would see the 32-year-old German international move to the Italian giants on a six-month loan until the end of the current season. Crucially, the deal includes an option for Milan to make the transfer permanent for a fee in the region of £14 million.
Fullkrug's departure from the London Stadium appears increasingly likely after it was revealed last month that he could leave in January. His opportunities in the first team have been limited under new manager Nuno Espirito Santo, making just nine appearances this season.
West Ham's Search for Replacements
West Ham are already actively pursuing striking reinforcements to fill the potential void. The Hammers have made an enquiry for Wolverhampton Wanderers' forward Jorgen Strand Larsen. Wolves are understood to value the player highly, having rejected a bid of over £55 million from Newcastle United in August 2024.
In addition to a new centre-forward, West Ham are also seeking to bolster their wide options. The club has held talks with Fulham regarding a move for powerful winger Adama Traore. Defensive reinforcements are also on the agenda, with discussions taking place with FC Utrecht for left-back Souffian El Karouani.
One player they are not currently pursuing, however, is Norwich City's American forward Josh Sargent.
Fullkrug's Difficult Hammers Spell
Niclas Fullkrug's time in East London has been underwhelming since his high-profile move from Borussia Dortmund in August 2024. The transfer, worth an initial £19 million, has not yielded the expected returns. His first season was hampered by injury, and overall he has managed just three goals in 28 games across all competitions for the Irons.
A fresh start at the historic San Siro could revitalise the experienced striker's career, while providing Milan with a proven target man. For West Ham, the potential deal offers a route to recoup a significant portion of their investment and reshape their attacking options under Nuno's leadership.
