Myles Garrett Breaks NFL Sack Record with 23 in 2025 Season
Myles Garrett Breaks NFL Single-Season Sack Record

Cleveland Browns defensive powerhouse Myles Garrett has officially etched his name into the National Football League's history books, becoming the new all-time single-season sack leader.

A Record-Setting Finale

The monumental achievement was secured in the final game of the 2025 NFL campaign against the Cincinnati Bengals. Garrett recorded his 23rd sack of the season, breaking the previous record of 22.5 sacks which was jointly held by New York Giants legend Michael Strahan and Pittsburgh Steelers star TJ Watt.

This landmark moment caps a dominant season for the Browns' pass rusher, who is now the heavy favourite to win the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award for the second time, having first claimed the honour in 2023.

Classy Congratulations from a Legend

The man who lost his share of the record, Hall of Famer and Fox Sports analyst Michael Strahan, responded with a gracious and heartfelt video message shared on the network's social media channels.

'Myles, congratulations my friend,' Strahan said. 'Welcome to the elite class of the NFL. NFL all-time single-season sack Leader.' He expressed immense pride in Garrett's accomplishments and predicted a future Hall of Fame induction, stating he looked forward to hearing Garrett's speech one day.

Strahan's praise was effusive, highlighting the difficulty of Garrett's feat. 'You don't know how hard it is to do that on a team that isn't always in the lead... He's done it on a team where he's the focus. He's the guy that gets doubled and tripled every time.'

A Gentle Nod to History

While full of praise, Strahan did offer a light-hearted, yet pointed, contextual note about the different eras of the game. Speaking on air, he remarked, 'I mean, I hold the record for a 16-game season. [Garrett holds] a record for a 17-game season.'

He clarified that comparing records across seasons of varying lengths is not straightforward, but was quick to reaffirm his admiration for the new record-holder. 'This young man is amazing, absolutely amazing. And I know that he has so many more sacks left in him... I think he's just getting going.'

Strahan concluded his congratulations with a wish for team success, hoping Garrett's long-term deal with Cleveland would lead to the 'ultimate thing' – a Super Bowl victory.

With the record now his at 23 sacks, and at the peak of his career, the football world will be watching to see if Myles Garrett can indeed surpass his own new benchmark in the seasons to come.
