Details of the estate left by former Liverpool Women's manager Matt Beard have been revealed following his tragic death earlier this year. The 47-year-old football coach died in September, leaving behind his wife and three children.
High Court Confirms Estate Details
The High Court confirmed on December 14 that Beard's estate was valued at approximately £152,000. After the deduction of taxes and administrative costs, the net sum passed to his family is understood to be around £136,000.
Beard died without leaving a formal will, meaning his estate is expected to pass automatically to his next of kin under standard probate rules. The court documents detailing this were officially released on Monday, December 29.
A Legacy in Women's Football
Matt Beard was a highly respected figure in the women's game. He led Liverpool Women to back-to-back Women's Super League titles in 2013 and 2014, a historic achievement for the club.
After a spell away, he returned to manage the Reds again in 2021, successfully guiding the team to promotion back to the top-flight WSL. He departed the club in February of this year, having managed over 350 games in his career and being named FA WSL Manager of the Season twice, in 2013 and again in 2024.
Tributes from the Football World
Following the news of his passing in September, an outpouring of grief and support came from across football. A fundraiser set up to support his family raised more than £50,000.
Liverpool Football Club released a statement praising Beard as "not only an extremely committed and successful manager, but also a person of real integrity and warmth".
Former England star Fara Williams, who played under Beard at Liverpool, shared heartfelt memories. "He was somebody that saw potential in me that maybe I didn't see myself," she said. "He gave a lot of love, he gave a lot of attention to people."
The Women's Super League also paid tribute, stating Beard "played an instrumental role in the growth of women's football".
At a memorial service in October, his brother Mark remembered him as a "beautiful soul and a one-in-a-million personality". Matt Beard is survived by his wife Debbie and their three children, Scott, Harry, and Ellie.
