Manchester United Receive Injury Boost Ahead of Bournemouth Clash
Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has been handed a significant injury boost ahead of his side's crucial Premier League fixture against Bournemouth on Friday evening. The Red Devils travel to the Vitality Stadium aiming to strengthen their push for a Champions League qualification spot, with key midfielder Mason Mount poised to return to the squad.
Bournemouth's Midfield Blow
Bournemouth will be without influential American midfielder Tyler Adams for the encounter. Cherries boss Andoni Iraola confirmed the absence during his pre-match press conference, stating, "Tyler is not going to be available, as you suppose, because he hasn't been in the squad for the U.S." The 27-year-old, who joined from Leeds United in 2023, has made 55 appearances and scored twice for the club.
This setback comes at a challenging time for Bournemouth, who sit tenth in the table but remain just four points behind seventh-placed Brentford with eight games remaining. A European qualification place remains mathematically possible, adding extra significance to Friday's match.
Manchester United's Returning Star
In contrast, Manchester United welcome back Mason Mount, who has been sidelined since mid-January. The England international returned to the bench for the recent match against Aston Villa, and Carrick indicated he could feature similarly against Bournemouth.
"Starting would be too much at this point, from training time and the exposure he's had," Carrick explained. "It's brilliant to have him back, he's a fantastic player and great to have around the group. The break coming up is a good time for him."
Injury Concerns Persist for United
Despite Mount's return, Manchester United continue to grapple with several defensive absences. Centre-back Matthijs de Ligt remains sidelined with a persistent back issue, while Lisandro Martinez and Noussair Mazraoui are also unavailable.
Carrick provided updates on the trio, noting, "It's similar really and frustrating for Matta. He's obviously trying to work to get back but it's just the back issue, really, that's proving difficult. We'll keep working as hard as we can, to get him back as quickly as we can."
Regarding Martinez, he added, "He's closer, a lot closer. He's getting there, so after this one. I think he'll be alright." Mazraoui's absence is due to illness, with Carrick confirming, "He just wasn't feeling too good today."
Premier League Stakes
Manchester United currently occupy third place in the Premier League following an impressive run under Carrick. A victory against Bournemouth could reduce the gap to local rivals Manchester City to just four points, intensifying the race for Champions League qualification.
Following Friday's fixture, both teams will enter a two-week break due to international commitments. Manchester United's next match is a highly anticipated clash against Leeds United at Old Trafford in mid-April, where further squad reinforcements could be available.
