Madueke Responds to Critics with Debut Arsenal Goal

Noni Madueke has revealed he paid no attention to the social media storm that greeted his high-profile transfer to Arsenal, drawing confidence instead from the overwhelming support he has felt from fans inside the stadium. The England forward made his point emphatically on the pitch, scoring his first goal for the club in a commanding 3-1 Champions League victory against Bayern Munich.

Overcoming Injury and Online Opposition

The 23-year-old's journey to that pivotal moment was not straightforward. His start at Arsenal was disrupted by a knee injury in September, which he described as "horrible timing" after his £48.5 million move from Chelsea, a deal that could rise by a further £3.5m in bonuses. During this period, a small but vocal online opposition emerged, including a petition against his signing.

However, Madueke insisted he has "taken it all in his stride." He emphasised the difference between online noise and the reality of matchday, stating, "You are in the public eye, people can say whatever they want about you. But being in the stadium, and how the fans have taken to me in the stadium, is unbelievable."

Stadium Support Fuels Forward's Confidence

The winger highlighted the electric atmosphere during the recent North London derby against Tottenham as a particular source of inspiration. "The last game versus Tottenham was incredible and that gives me such a boost," Madueke explained. "I play on the side of the pitch, I can feel them [the fans], I can hear them. When they are that positive about me it gives me a massive boost. Honestly, I am made up about it."

Focusing on the Task Ahead at Stamford Bridge

All focus now shifts to a significant Premier League fixture as Arsenal travel to face Chelsea on Sunday. With the Gunners holding a six-point lead over their London rivals, the match carries extra weight. Madueke is in contention to make his first start since late September, especially with doubts over the fitness of Leandro Trossard.

When asked about the potential reception from the home supporters at his former club, the forward remained unphased. "It might be a little bit hostile, it might not be, but I am a professional footballer," he stated. "I have played in loads of atmospheres. I don't know if anything will faze me. I will just be focused on the task."

As for talk of a potential double-winning season, Madueke was pragmatic, adding, "Our goal going into every game is to win the game. I don't know if it is great to be thinking so far ahead in November."
