Scotland's Bob MacIntyre has declared his game is precisely where he wants it to be as he prepares to chase his first major title at the Masters this week. The 29-year-old golfer from Oban is targeting the iconic green jacket after a near-miss at the Valero Texas Open in San Antonio on Sunday night.
Recent Form and Momentum
MacIntyre led the Texas Open by four shots at the halfway stage but ultimately finished in a tie for second, one stroke behind winner JJ Spaun. Despite the disappointment, he expressed satisfaction with his recent performances, highlighting his fourth-place finish at the Players Championship last month. He believes maintaining this level will be crucial at Augusta National.
Reflections on Texas Open
‘I gave it my best shot,’ MacIntyre said after shooting a closing 70, which included an eagle on the par-4 17th. He came agonisingly close to forcing a playoff in the weather-delayed event. ‘I trusted everything that I’ve got, especially coming down that stretch. I was proud of the way I played. Disappointed with some of the bogeys. Good execution, a couple of shots. I’m right there, I don’t need to worry about things. I just need to rinse and repeat again going into next week.’
Strategic Approach to the Masters
Last year, MacIntyre took the week off before the Masters, only to miss the cut. This year, he opted to play in Texas to build momentum. ‘I wanted to be sharp, or sharper going into Augusta,’ he explained. ‘I prefer playing my way in.’ This strategic shift underscores his determination to avoid past pitfalls and capitalise on his current form.
As the world No 8, MacIntyre's confidence is high, and he is focused on translating his consistent play into a major breakthrough. The Masters represents a pivotal opportunity for him to secure a landmark victory and cement his status among golf's elite.
